Just finished listening to the podcast and it got me worked up.

As a Childrens Pastor I work hard to lead a team, manage volunteers, develop programs, and implement strategies all for what seems sometimes like such a small impact. Much of what happens on a Sunday morning likely gets undone at home.

I have begun to look at what we do through the eyes of “will this help parents become more successful?”

I have found it is also easy to get wrapped up in “helping parents raise their kids”. Unfortunately too many times we see parenting success all from the perspective of discipline and behavoir instead of measuring the spiritual.

Quite frankly, there are times that I am a horrible parent riddled with inconsistencies but I continue to show my own kids a great God and rely on Him to change their hearts.

Thanks for the feedback! This was a hard show to do because I don’t have a good answer for the question… I just know the answer we would typically give isn’t right. To do a show topic like this it seems you ought to have it all figured out… but hopefully the way it came out will at least get folks thinking… and let the ones who are thinking know that they’re not alone.

It is a tough show to do and I agree, what we are doing is not the right answer.

I feel like it is more about parents not having a faith to pass on than it is about parents not knowing how to pass on their faith.

Great show! I was reminded of an article I read in a youth worker journal (back in the before times when I was in ministry to people taller than me). The article made the illustration that we as God’s workers are sycamore trees. The sycamore tree that Zaccheus climbed just made it possible for him to see Jesus. That is what we are called to do – allow Christ to be visible in the lives of our kids. It is sometimes heartbreaking when kids get to see Jesus, but then go home where it is not reinforced. I take peace in the fact that God’s Word never returns vacant. There is a difference being made in the hearts and lives of our kids. That’s how I sleep at night anyway. Great show – keep up the wonderful work!
